What are you working though?

People don’t always come to me knowing exactly what kind of support they need.

Sometimes a relationship has become difficult. A leadership team is stuck. A decision isn’t moving. An Indigenous relationship or partnership has become more complicated than expected. Conflict keeps resurfacing. Or an organization has a good strategy but is struggling to make it work with actual people.

You don’t need to diagnose the problem before reaching out.

We can start with what is happening.

Your organization is going through significant change.

Growth, restructuring, layoffs, leadership changes or shifts in organizational culture can create uncertainty quickly.

Employees may be worried about their jobs, unclear about what is changing, frustrated by how decisions are being made, or losing trust in leadership. During periods of rapid growth, organizations can experience a different version of the same problem: roles become unclear, culture changes, communication breaks down and systems that once worked no longer fit.

I work with leaders and organizations to understand what the change is asking of people, strengthen communication and human capacity, and create the conditions for people to move through uncertainty without ignoring the very real impacts of what is happening.

The goal isn't to make people comfortable with every decision. It is to help organizations navigate change with clarity, responsibility, trust and accountability.

Your leadership team or board keeps getting stuck.

Sometimes the same issue keeps coming back, even after it has been discussed, addressed or supposedly resolved.

It may look like a governance problem, unclear roles, accountability, communication or decision-making. Underneath it may also be different expectations, unresolved relationships, competing perspectives or organizational patterns that are difficult to see when you are inside them.

I work with leaders, boards and teams to understand where things are getting stuck, strengthen the capacity around the issue and create better conditions for decisions, relationships and accountability.

Conflict or tension is beginning to affect the work.

Not every conflict needs mediation, and not every difficult relationship can be fixed with another conversation about communication.

Sometimes people need help understanding why the same issues keep resurfacing, what is happening underneath the conflict and whether the structures, expectations or behaviours around the situation are contributing to it.

I help people slow the situation down enough to see it more clearly, work across different perspectives and determine what needs to change for the work to move forward.

You’re facing a difficult decision.

Some decisions are difficult because there isn’t one obvious answer.

Different people may hold different information, responsibilities, histories and perspectives. The issue may involve relationships, governance, organizational pressure, competing priorities and practical realities all at once.

I design and facilitate processes that help people build enough shared understanding to work through those differences, ask better questions and make stronger decisions together.

An Indigenous relationship or partnership has become complicated.

You may already have an Indigenous Relations team, an engagement strategy, established relationships or experienced people doing the work. But sometimes the usual approaches are no longer enough.

A relationship may have become strained. Expectations may not be aligned. Trust may have been affected. Internal decisions may be creating challenges externally. Different histories, responsibilities or perspectives may be colliding. Or your team may simply be unsure what to do next.

I work with Indigenous and non-Indigenous leaders, businesses, organizations and institutions to understand what is actually happening, identify what may be getting in the way and determine what moving forward requires.

You have a good strategy, but something still isn’t working.

Organizations can have strong strategies, policies, structures and plans and still struggle to move.

Sometimes the challenge isn’t the strategy itself. It is the human capacity required to carry it.

People may be working from different understandings. Leadership expectations may be unclear. Relationships may be strained. Teams may become reactive under pressure. Accountability may be difficult. Or an organization may be trying to create change without addressing the conditions that keep reproducing the same problems.

This is the space I describe as Human Infrastructure.

It is the capacity underneath leadership, organizations, governance and systems that allows people to work through complexity together.

How I Approach the Work

I have spent more than two decades working across Indigenous communities, governance, government, organizations and business.

That experience has taught me that complex problems rarely sit neatly inside one category.

A governance problem can also be a relationship problem. An Indigenous Relations challenge can be connected to decisions happening elsewhere in an organization. A conflict between people can reveal something about the system around them. And a strategy can be technically sound and still fail because the human capacity required to carry it was never built.

My work begins with understanding what is actually happening before deciding what kind of intervention, process or support is required.

Cultivating Safe Spaces + Human Infrastructure Practice

I created Cultivating Safe Spaces as a framework for understanding and strengthening the human capacity required to navigate relationships, different perspectives, conflict, accountability, decision-making and change.

Human Infrastructure Practice is the applied practice of Cultivating Safe Spaces.

It brings the framework into complex organizational, leadership, governance and systems work, where the challenge is rarely solved by a technical answer alone.
